Match Racing

Match Racing and the Boats: Match racing is one-on-one sailing. The courses are short, averaging 18-20 minutes. It is an intense, action-packed race where the gloves are off and we are doing everything possible to keep our opponent behind. The boat is the Elliott 6 meter (E6m). It is a triple-handed 19.5 ft keelboat with main, jib and spinnaker. It is a very physical, high-aspect, high-performance boat where we are flat out hiking in 8 knots. This makes for a fun, energetic, athletic class among the disciplines in Olympic sailing!
